YBS accidents in 8 months: 30 dead, 89 hurt

Over eight months this year, there were 30 deaths and 89 injured persons from YBS accidents, according to Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRCT).
In January, there were seven YBS accidents that left four fatalities and seven hurt. Five YBS accidents in February left four deaths and three injuries, eight YBS accidents and two other cases in March caused four fatalities and 22 injuries, and three YBS accidents and one case in April caused two deaths and two injuries.
Seven road accidents in May left four deaths and five injured, five road accidents in June left three deaths and three injuries, eight road accidents and another one case in July left seven fatalities and 32 wounded, and there were five road accidents and another one case in August, left two deaths and 15 injured, according to YRTC’s statistics.
Under casualty data collected until 29 August, 12 pedestrians and nine cyclists were killed in YBS accidents. two people died from falling from a bus, two people were killed in a collision with a motorcycle, and a further two people were dead from a collision with a private car; one person was dead from a collision with a taxi, one person was dead from a collision with a truck, and another one died from other case happened aboard.
From January until August, YRTC organizes seminars monthly to educate undisciplined YBS drivers about road safety, and so far, 1,296 drivers have been included. There are 21 YBS companies under the management of YRTC, and 131 bus lines commute about 1.4 million passengers daily by 3,800 buses. — MT/ZS/ED
