Cherry vessel ferry is conveying passengers between Pansodan and Dala.

During the COVID-19 outbreak and extended pubic holidays, Yangon (Pansodan-Dala) ferries have amended its route and schedule for the convenience of the passengers, according to the Inland Water Transport (Delta Division).
Currently, the water ferries are running 28 times a day on weekdays and 20 times a day on weekends. Due to the declined number of passengers, the water ferry will be rescheduled depending on the number of passengers onboard, said U Hla Win Naing, the assistant general manager from IWT (Delta Division).
The ferry ships running from Yangon’s Pansodan to Dala are set to operate 28 times a day, rescheduling its regular service of 46 times a day.
The Pansodan-Dala jetty is the only gateway for the local people in southern Yangon— Dala, Twantay, Kawhmu, Kungyangon townships and some townships in Ayeyawady Region to link themselves with the commercial hub of Yangon City. Three motor vessels named Cherry 1, 2 and 3, donated by Japan have been running daily. Currently, the water ferries are rescheduled due to declined number of passengers.
Due to the declined number of passengers, the Pansodan-Dala ferries transported a total of 29,010 commuters from 1 August to 15 August and the average daily passenger was 1,900 approximately.
Before outbreak of COVID-19, the ferries transported over 27,000 passengers daily from Dala to Yangon. It is one of the crowded places in the city, generating revenues.—Naing Lin Kyaw (IPRD)/GNLM
