The Yangon Region Transport Committee (YRTC) will designate three highway lanes for heavy trucks, highway cargo trucks and express buses in order to slash traffic congestion at the corner of No 3 Highway and Khayebin Road.
According to the set new lanes, highway trucks that depart Insein Township will pass the old Yangon-Bago route through Htaukkyant Street, No 4 Highway. After that, highway express excluding cargo trucks are to pass Pyay Road to Yangon-Mandalay Highway through Khayebin Road. The third route is trucks plying regularly across Yangon Region, trucks en route from Dagon Myothit (East) to highway through Zaykabar Industrial Zone and highway express leaving for Mawlamyine-Ye-Dawei-Myeik-Taninthayi-Kawthoung have to pass the old Bago route. Those instructions for the new lanes of heavy trucks and highway express will come into effective on 1 February.
Yangon Region government has instructed the traffic inspection teams to supervise the vehicles in a systematic way. Myanmar Highway Freight Transportation Services Association and Myanmar Container Trucks Association are notified of the new lanes as well.
Moreover, township-level inspection subcommittees will also conduct a surprise check on the vehicles whether they abide by the instructions or not. The related associations must notify the truck operators to follow the rules.—Ko Naing (Bago)/GNLM
