MoBA meets to coordinate emergency work on natural disasters

The Ministry of Border Affairs’ emergency work coordination meeting on natural disasters was held at the ministry yesterday afternoon.
First, Union Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung recounted that there are warnings that the low-pressure area would develop in the Bay of Bengal the next few days and it may turn into a cyclonic storm and cross into the inland areas of Myanmar.
In accordance with the guidelines of the National Disaster Management Committee, the ministry needs to prepare for the impact of the cyclone as well as related natural disasters in the offices and academic institutions under the ministry’s control to minimize loss and damage for the people and infrastructures as much as possible, he stated.
All need to make readiness for medicines, food, clean water, life-saving equipment, and rescue equipment. Officials should prepare the directives of the relevant regional and state governments in a timely manner, he added.
He urged the rescue teams to carry out emergency rescue and relief works under the management of the ministry to cooperate with the affected people from the disaster areas when the cyclone strikes.
Later, officials presented the conditions of preparedness according to the respective areas, and the Union Minister and deputy ministers coordinated and fulfilled the presentations. — MNA/KZL
