The Myanmar Royal Descendants Association plans to maintain and preserve the mausoleum of King Alaungpaya U Aung Zeya, the founder of the Third Myanmar Kingdom, in Kin village, Bilin township, adhering to its authentic style, according to an official.
While marching to surround Ayutthaya on hearing that the Siams (Thais) had invaded Kyay Sun Ywa Let in Dawei in 1121 Myanmar Era and returning after falling ill, King Alaungpaya died in Kin village at the age of 45 years, eight years on the throne, on the 12th waning day of Kasone, 1122 ME.
Currently, the brick tomb of King Alaungpaya has been covered with a spired roof for its durability.
“The roof is to protect it from the rain during the rainy season. The Myanmar Royal Descendants Association bore the cost to ensure tomb’s durability. We built a roof over it after clearing the grass around the area. We plan to preserve the original work,” he said.
The monk of the monastery at the tomb will take care of the ongoing maintenance.
“There is a head monk at the brick tomb and he undertakes routine maintenance. In fact, successive head monks have taken care of the mausoleum,” said the official.
