Myanmar ships around 80,000-tonne corn to 3 countries

Myanmar exported about 80,000 tonnes of corn to three foreign countries on 8 April 2024, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
With Myanmar accelerating efforts to bolster exports for the State’s economic growth, Myanmar sent 25,000 tonnes of corn to the Philippines by ship (MV Manta Hatice) through No 6 Sule Wharf, 12,700 tonnes to Thailand by ship (MV Tay Son 4) via TMT Port, 27,500 tonnes to India by ship (MV Seiyo Harmony) through Myanmar Industrial Port 2 and 2,700 tonnes to Thailand by ship (MV MCL 20) via MHM terminal on 8 April respectively.
Additionally, Myanmar delivered 621 containers loaded with fishery products, rice, pulses, clothes, forest products, sugar, sesame, corn, rubber and other goods to Malaysia by a ship (MV Maersu Davao) through Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa 1 and 533 containers with full loads of fishery products, rice, pulse, clothes, forest products, sugar, corn and rubber to Viet Nam by a ship (MV SITC Chenming) through Asia World Port Terminal on that day. A total of 12,000 tonnes of rice were also shipped to Spain and Cameroon by a ship MT Turan C through SPW 3 on 7 April as well.
Moreover, Myanmar exported 5,400 tonnes of corn each to Thailand by two ships (MV MCL 8 and MV MCL 7) through the MHM terminal on 9 April, and 6,600 tonnes of corn were scheduled to be exported to the Philippines by a ship (MV. RAINBOW SYMPHONY) through AIPT-3 on 10 April.
Myanmar shipped over two million tonnes of corn to foreign trade partners in the 2022 corn season. The majority of them were sent to Thailand, and the remaining went to China, India, the Philippines and Viet Nam. Corn is cultivated in Shan, Kachin, Kayah, and Kayin states as well as Mandalay, Sagaing, and Magway regions. Myanmar has three corn seasons: winter, summer and monsoon. Myanmar’s annual corn output is estimated at 2.5-3 million tonnes. — NN/EM
