Agriculture and livestock farms must be arranged to meet the daily food demands of Yangon Region

It is necessary to produce goods in Yangon Region and collect products from other regions at fair prices so that the people of Yangon Region do not face the impacts of higher prices for goods, said Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in inspecting the implementation of  the Thilawa Agriculture and Livestock Zone between Yangon River and Hmawun Creek in Kyauktan Township of Yangon Region yesterday morning.

At the briefing hall, Chairman of Myanmar Economic Corporation Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, Chairman of Myanmar Economic Holdings Public Co Ltd Lt-Gen Hsan Oo and officials reported on the progress of Thilawa agricultural and livestock farm, 26th-mile agricultural and livestock farm, Shwemayin fish farm in Twantay Township and Ngwe Pinle livestock and fishery farm, implementation of agricultural and livestock farms, selling chicken eggs and duck eggs at the disaster-hit region at fair prices, consumption of meat and fish in Yangon Region, and agriculture and livestock farms of Yangon Command.
Production of agriculture and livestock farms to ensure sufficiency of food in the region
Hearing the reports, the Senior General said that meat, fish, eggs and vegetables must be supplied to some eight million population of the Yangon Region on a daily basis. Regions and states including Ayeyawady and Bago regions and Shan State send meat, fish and eggs to Yangon Region. Products from other regions will be sold at higher prices due to spending transport charges in addition to production costs. Hence, the agriculture and livestock zones were implemented in Yangon Region.
Striving for declining basic goods prices
Some unscrupulous persons not wishing to see peace and stability and development of the country attempted to cause political crises of the country by imposing economic sanctions and raising commodity prices. The government could overcome such difficulties. No to raise foodstuff prices, it is necessary to successfully improve agriculture and livestock farms. Agricultural lands in the region must be efficiently utilized. Agriculture and livestock farms must be actually beneficial, contributing to the food supplies of Yangon population. Ayethaya of southern Shan State sends eggs and Bago and Ayeyawady regions duck eggs to Yangon Region but the prices of goods are too much higher than the actual ones. The Senior General stressed the need to scrutinize higher prices of consumer goods than the deserved prices. Primarily, it is necessary to produce goods in Yangon Region and collect products from other regions at fair prices so that the people of Yangon Region do not face the impacts of higher prices for goods.
Making inspection tours
The Senior General and party viewed sample fish from Thilawa agriculture and livestock farm, duck eggs, Taiwan papaya and dairy products from agriculture and livestock farms.
The Senior General inspected hatching of fingerlings at the zone, fish farming and raising of duck, and gave necessary guidance to officials. Then, the Senior General viewed round fish farming processes and discussed production and food security for Yangon City. — MNA/TTA
