Not-seen-before Bagan sceneries to be seen soon
After completing one circle cleaning in 11 areas, the cleaning in C and E areas of Bagan World Heritage Area has started with additional jobs such as clearing the bushes that obscures the view of the pagodas and digging out the stumps, according to the Bagan Arch.
U Kyaw Myo Win, director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum, said on his social media page a few days ago that people will soon be able to see the scenery of Bagan that they have not seen before as the department has been clearing trees and stumps which are not Bagan’s origin.
The Bagan region on the World Heritage List is rich in pagodas and cave temples with a wide area, making it a great tourist destination for both local and foreign observers. To enable visitors to enjoy the beauty of Bagan, to make the heritage buildings safe and clean and sustainable for the long term, a cleaning plan to clear grass, bushes, dust, spider webs and pigeon droppings in and around pagodas has been drawn up to carry out every year after designating 11 areas covering 20 feet away from the ancient buildings. Such activities and Buddha-image cleaning work are being carried out according to priority, he said.
One circle cleaning of 11 areas which started in July 2023 has been completed and from 9 August 2024, cleaning of C and E areas began and additional jobs such as clearing the bushes that obscures the view of the pagodas and digging out the stumps are also included, he added.
Tourist arrival to Bagan in the dry zone does not have the influx of tourists as in the open season, but there are regular visitors on a daily basis, with more crowds on weekends and holidays, according to locals. – MT/ZN
