As a gesture of hailing the Diamond Jubilee Independence Day, a ceremony to inaugurate a 9-storey medical building took place at the Pathein General Hospital yesterday morning, attended by Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe.

Speaking on the occasion at the multifunctional hall of the building, the Secretary said that during the tenure of the State Administration Council, annexes were opened at hospitals in Hinthada, Hpa-an, Magway, Monywa and Waibargi of Yangon. The nine-storey new medical building of Pathein General Hospital was built on 2.23 acres of land with more than K22 billion from the allotted fund. Arrangements are being made to upgrade Pathein General Hospital as a 500-bed facility formed with speciality departments.
The Secretary continued to say that thanks to the opening of the new building for modern medical treatment, health staff will have the chance to study advanced medical science. Hence, they have to apply these good opportunities in uplifting their medical treatment capacity and providing better healthcare services for the people.
The Union Minister for Health expressed that the Ministry of Health is striving for the betterment of public healthcare services and treatments to enable all people to have longevity free from diseases. The ministry manages 1,178 hospitals across the nation, 133 of which are located in the Ayeyawady Region. These regional hospitals admit more than 3,000 inpatients per day, he noted. The Union Minister underscored Pathein General Hospital gave treatments to more than 70,000 inpatients and more than 60,000 outpatients in 2022.
