Issuance of Overseas Worker Identification Card (OWIC) was seen at Yangon Region Office of the Department of Labour at 8 mile, Mayangon township, Yangon Region in 2023,

The Department of Labour has advised that everyone who is going to work abroad must register as an overseas worker with the Ministry of Labour and obtain an Overseas Employment Worker Identification Card (OWIC) before going abroad.

Those who are going to work abroad will need to apply for a passport for job (PJ) type and must register with the ministry before leaving Myanmar.

Now, PV (Passport for Visit ) holders, supposed to visit foreign countries with a visa, are applying for employment visas, not for visiting, and working abroad, and if any problems arise abroad, they are facing difficulties in solving issues, the ministry said.

If PV holders are prohibited at the departing airports and border gates, they can suffer unnecessary losses, and to avoid them, they need to apply for PJ from the very beginning in accordance with the procedures, register as an overseas worker and acquire OWIC for official departure.

Passport types are passport for visit (PV), passport for job (PJ), passport for education (PE), passport for business (PB), passport for religious (PR), passport for dependent (PT) and passport for seaman (PS), it said.

The section 9(a) of the law states that overseas employment seekers shall register themselves as overseas employment seekers at the department for the type of overseas employment for which compulsory registration is required by the department, and the section 10(b) states that “ certificates of registration must be issued to them before leaving for abroad, the ministry said.
