According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, efforts are being made to establish the Mount Popa region as a national-level geopark.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation announced that this is the preliminary measure towards being proposed as a UNESCO World Geopark.
It is known that among the many places with good potential for being designated as a world geopark in Myanmar, the Mount Popa region is the most special one.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, there are unique fossilized jaws in the Mount Popa area.
It is also reported that the Mount Popa National Geopark will be designated as a national geopark before being proposed as a world-class geopark.
UNESCO started the Global Geopark Programme in 2001, and 177 Global Geoparks have been designated in 46 countries. —TWA/GNLM
