Yangon City Taxi Association (temporary) was formed to take action on miscreant taxi drivers in the Yangon region, according to the Yangon Region Transport Committee (YRTC).
The association was formed because of congestion and frequent road accidents caused by taxi drivers stopping their taxis at no parking areas such as yellow lines, bus stops and intersections. Currently, the awareness period has been set for one month, said U Lyan Ciint Mang of the YRTC.
“The taxi drivers stopped their taxis at no parking area such as bus stop. Currently, we are providing awareness to taxi drivers. Later, we are going to take legal action against them as suspension of CNG or business license,” he was quoted as saying.
The Yangon City Taxi Association (temporary) was formed with 25 members from YRTC and other legal advisers to draw the draft of rules and regulations. The rules and regulations of the association are being drafted now, according to the YRTC.
Around 60,000 taxis from the Yangon region were registered as city taxis at the YRTC. These taxis stopped at the bus stops and there are no places for buses to stop at bus stations, U Lyan Ciint Mang clarified.
