Myanmar attends tourism disaster management planning, awareness seminar

The Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the World Tourism Organization and the Japan Tourism Agency held a joint paper-reading on tourism disaster management planning and awareness-raising yesterday morning.
Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung along with the Directors-General from the Ministry, Subjects officials, the president of the Myanmar Tourism Federation and enthusiasts from the affiliated associations, attended the seminar online.
Vice-Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency Mr Tomohiro Kaneko gave an opening speech and a video of the director-general of the Department of Sustainable Tourism Development of the World Tourism Organization Dr Dirk Glaesser’s message was released.
Tourism experts gave a talk on “Tourism Disaster Management Awareness”, “Tourism Disaster Management Plan Guidelines and Response Procedures”. Tourism officials from Japan and Australia discussed the response to volcanic eruptions and natural disasters in Japan and tourism rehabilitation and emergency response to wildfires in Australia.
Afterwards, the CEO of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the World Tourism Organization Mr Yoshiaki Hompo delivered the concluding remarks. — MNA
