Myanmar athletes won one gold and two silver medals in the Thailand Master Championship and All Thailand Table Tennis Championship held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 13 to 16 January.
Five athletes from the Myanmar Table Tennis Federation in the senior division and one in the junior division participated in the championship.
In the competition, Ko Kyi Myint from Myanmar won two silvers in the over 40 categories and one gold medal in over 50 categories of the senior championship and individual freestyle.
“Since registering to compete in this competition, regular training has been carried out. Countries such as Thailand, China, Germany and France also come to compete. The main players are from Thailand.
“In the Over 50 final, I won the gold medal by defeating a Thai player 3-0. What I want to say to the young athlete is to keep trying until you get a game point in any competition. It’s hurt to lose by one point,” said senior player Ko Kyi Myint.
A total of 125 freelance players, 85 players in the Over 40 competitions and 65 players in the Over 50 competitions competed in the tournament.
The victorious Myanmar table tennis team returned by flight yesterday morning and was welcomed at the Yangon International Airport by Institute of Sports and Physical Education (Yangon) principal U Aung Naing Swe, president of the Myanmar Table Tennis Federation U Kyaw Kyaw, executive members and athletes. — Bala Soe/KZL
