Illegal timbers, consumer goods, foodstuffs, sport equipment and vehicles confiscated

A combined team led by the Mandalay Customs Department under the supervision of the Mandalay Region Illicit Trade Eradication Task Force made inspections on 9 and 10 March.
Officials captured two kinds of goods (including frozen seafood) worth K5.1 million near 21st-Milepost on Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road, seven kinds of goods (including sports equipment, PVC pipes and mini speakers) that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) worth K47,182,583 from three tractor heads and three trailers (estimated value of K210 million) heading to Mandalay from Muse near 52/2- Milepost on Mandalay-Lashio Road. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 10 March, an on-duty team at the Naungnon combined checkpoint in Kengtung township seized two kinds of goods (including 60 cartons of shower cream) without official documents worth K3.6 million from a vehicle heading to Taunggyi from Tachilek. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
Similarly, an unregistered Toyota Velifire car (estimated value of K5 million) was seized in Latha township and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
A combined team under the management of the Kayin State Illicit Eradication Trade Task Force conducted a surprise check and nabbed 15 TVs (used) and 10 refrigerators (used) worth K3.45 million without official documents from three shops in Myawady township on 11 March and 50 cartons of Spy wine cooler-black, 100 cartons of Singha beer and 50 cartons of Leo beer worth K4.95 million without official documents from a vehicle (estimated value of K13 million) at the Thanlwin bridge (Hpa-an) combined checkpoint on 12 March. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 11 and 12 March, a total of 19.8094 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K3,355,618 was captured in Bago and Kyaukdaga townships and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 21 arrests (estimated value of K295,638,201) were made on four consecutive days from 9 to 12 March, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
