Persistent landslides plague Myawady-Kawkareik Asian Highway

A larger landslide, roughly three times the size of the previous day’s, has been reported near the site of yesterday’s landslide along the Myawady-Kawkareik Asian Highway. On 8 August, around 12:30 pm, another landslide occurred close to the spot where a truck trailer had been engulfed during the previous day’s slide on Asia Road.
According to an official from the Thingannyinaung Rescue Association, “There was another landslide on the Kawkareik side, near the location where the truck trailer was stuck.” Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries to people or animals during the landslide.
Recent days of persistent heavy rainfall have contributed to landslides on the Myawady-Kawkareik Highway in Kayin State. Similarly, a landslide occurred near the Tawnaw Waterfall on the Asia Trade Highway on the morning of 7 August, resulting in a section of the road being blocked. — TWA/MKKS
