MNHRC inspects Maubin Prison to ensure rights

The inspection team, led by Commissioner U Kyaw Soe from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected the Maubin Prison in Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Region, on 10 October 2023 under Section 43 and Section 44 of the MNHRC Law.
The inspection team inspected the Maubin Prison according to the MNHRC law and procedures whether the prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, healthcare and adequate purified water. They enquired about the prisoners to ensure that they get their personal items and items sent by families and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases in the prison.
The inspection team also viewed the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier, and water sanitation system of the prison.
Besides, MNHRC donated 50 books for the prisoners. MNHRC will send recommendations to relevant departments for the necessary action based on the findings during the inspection. — MNHRC
