Yangon’s central lab detects water contamination at 36 parameters

The Engineering Department (Water and Sanitation) of the Yangon City Development Committee said that the central lab for water quality management is capable of detecting waste water with 36 parameters of quality level.
Founded in 2014, the lab initially had the capacity to measure only 13 parameters. Annually, it analyzes close to 5,000 samples sourced from the committee’s water reservoirs, purification facilities, tube-wells, and other committee outlets.
Starting from 2017, the committee has established six smaller labs at the Yeku water pumping station, Hlawga, Gyobyu and Phugyi reservoirs, Nyaunghnapin water treatment plant, and Lagunbyin water treatment plant. The labs measure eight parameters of water every day.
The lab is located in Thakayta Township and was commissioned into service by the Yangon Region Chief Minister on 7 March this year. — TWA/NT
