According to Daw Nilar Myint, principal of the Lacquerware Technology College in Bagan, the institution not only provides education in lacquerware but also oversees a museum, craft demonstration room, and showroom designed explicitly for foreign visitors.
Daw Nilar Myint explained that foreign visitors have the opportunity to view ancient lacquerware exhibits in the museum and learn about the crafting process in the demonstration room. They can also observe the college’s students actively engaged in creating lacquerware pieces. Additionally, the showroom displays various types of lacquerware available for purchase.
Furthermore, the college teaches traditional Myanmar lacquerware techniques alongside methods from other countries. In order to captivate international audiences, students incorporate contemporary designs into their crafted pieces, adhering to their traditional methods. The showroom features a range of lacquerware items, including wearable accessories like bracelets and necklaces, as well as household and decorative pieces such as bowls and curtains, all crafted from lacquer. — ASH/NT
