Sugar price shows upward trajectory as milling season almost ends

Sugar prices show bullish market sentiment when the sugar mills nearly finish operations. However, jaggery prices continue to decline with persistent production.
The sugar price jumped to K4,600 per viss in early April from K3,970 per viss on 17 February 2024 in Yangon’s market.
Meanwhile, the jaggery fetched K3,600-K5,500 per viss depending on producing areas, varieties and quality on 6 April, decreasing from K3,700-K5,800 per viss on 27 March. Jaggery combo mixed with sugar is cheaper than organic jaggery. Sugar mills’ dynamic pricing might influence the market value. The sugar price is expected to continue rising, Ko Min, a trader who sells sugar to regions outside Yangon, told The Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM). — TWA/EM
