A member of the parahita group is refilling the pots at a roadside drinking water stand.

The Yenangyoung-Magway-Chauk road has public water stands which traditionally provide free drinking water pots (Yaychanzins) and now the number of people using water has increased due to high temperature, so the water needs to be refilled more frequently, according to Yenanthar Dingar Brothers Parahita group which takes charge of the donated drinking water pots.

At present, the temperature has been extremely high in Magway, Yenangyoung and Chauk townships and the parahita group has also donated water to villages in Chauk where water is scarce.

“We do water donation in particular. Due to extreme heat, we have to refill drinking water pots all the time. And we also donate water to villages which suffer annual water scarcity. We can’t grow plants at present. Because, we need to focus more on water donating, especially in Yenangyoung and Chauk townships. The temperature has gradually mounted here, so we used to refill drinking water pots once in four days previously, but now every alternate day,” said an official from the parahita group.

The group has planned to complete a project of growing shady trees, along Yenangyoung-Magway-Chauk road within more than 70 miles, in 7 years.

“We have been growing shady trees along Yenangyoung-Magway-Chauk road within 70 miles and it is expected to complete in 7 years. We began it in 2023 monsoon. Started from Daungthay bridge at northern Magway, we have now completed in three sections- at entrance of Dakekone village at northern Magway, at Yenangyoung bypass and at Kyaungshartaw village in Chauk, aiming to water them easily,” he said.

In addition to growing trees with the aim of providing shade for travellers, the group has also provided drinking water stands and resting shelters (zayat). Currently, it has provided more than 100 drinking water stands.
