APF Virtual Dialogue on Climate Change and Human Rights: Role of NHRIs meeting held

The “APF Virtual Dialogue on Climate Change and Human Rights: Role of National Human Rights Institutions” meeting, jointly organized by the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and the Asia-Pacific National Human Rights Organizations Forum (APF), was held via zoom platform yesterday afternoon.
Representatives of national human rights organizations that are APF member countries, Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Hla Myint, Vice-Chair Dr Nanda Hmun, members U Paw Lwin Sein, Dr Than Myint and Dr Tin Maung Maung Than and officials also attended the meeting.
APF Secretariat Principal Advisor Ms Pip Dargan moderated the discussion and gave an opening speech.
In the panel session, the MNHRC chairperson spoke about the country’s actions related to climate change and discusses the commission’s cooperation in climate change and the roles of women as a vulnerable group due to climate change.
Director Dr Renante Basas at the National Human Rights Commission of the Philippines, Maldives Human Rights Commission Chair Ms Mariyam Muna, Human Rights Commission of India Chair Mr Justice Arun Mishra and APF Counsel Mr Romulo Nayacalevu discussed national climate change impacts and climate change actions, climate change law, policy-making issues, cooperation issues involving civil society organizations and national human rights organizations.
Finally, participants held the panellists’ discussions and presentations. — MNA
