Debunked: Reports of 1,200 school closures in northern Rakhine confirmed as false information

Fake news has been spread on social media, claiming that about 1,200 schools in 10 townships – Buthidaung, Maungtaw, Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Pauktaw, Minbya, Myebon, Kyauktaw, MraukU and Sittway – in Rakhine State (North) have been closed due to terrorist acts by AA insurgents in Rakhine State.
In reality, there is no such thing as school closure in northern Rakhine State, and all schools are open as normal, according to an official from the Rakhine State Education Office.
Therefore, it is hereby announced that residents are advised not to believe in misinformation about education being spread online by anti-government media and some pro-terrorist news outlets. Parents will need to continue encouraging the education of their children. — MNA/ZN
