Misinformation Alert: Clarifying false reports on Mawlamyine University faculty members’ movement restrictions

False news and misinformation are circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the rector of Mawlamyine University issued a ban on faculty members from leaving the university premises. According to these inaccurate reports, an emergency meeting held on 16 November allegedly resulted in this restriction, as faculty members had relocated to be closer to their relatives due to concerns arising from a terrorist attack on Loikaw University in Kayah State, which led to the arrest of the rector and faculty members.
Contrary to these claims, the meeting held on 16 November was a routine gathering, and there was no decision to restrict faculty members’ movement. The misinformation being spread on social media platforms appears to be a deliberate attempt to create unrest in the State, undermine peace and stability, and potentially incite terrorist activities. — MNA/TKO
