The free-on-board (FOB) price of a tonne of pigeon peas (red gram) was only US$1,320–1,340 from 5 to 7 October, but on 9 October, it increased to $1,350–1,370.
In the Yangon beans and pulses market, the price of pigeon peas was stable at K4,075,000 per tonne for nine days, from 29 September to 9 October.
In the same period last year, the export price of pigeon peas was only $835–855 per tonne. On 9 October of this year, the price increased by $515 compared to the same period last year, which is a half of the previous year’s price (61 per cent). However, the domestic price of a tonne of pigeon peas in the Yangon market is more than double that of the same period last year. On 7 and 11 October of last year, the price of a tonne of pigeon peas was only K1,975,000.
Although the domestic price of pigeon peas is stable, the price of black gram RC is fluctuating up and down around K2.5 million.
On 9 October, 35 containers (840 tonnes) were traded at the price of K2,548,500 per tonne of black gram RC. Since the export prices of black grams and pigeon peas have increased in the 2023–2024 financial year, it is estimated that the export earnings from the export of beans and pulses will increase. — TWA/CT
