Illegal timber, consumer goods, foodstuffs, industrial materials and vehicles confiscated

An on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint in Mon State on 11 January.
Officials captured K158,486,600 worth of 60 rolls of textile and construction materials that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from two vehicles with a trailer heading to Yangon from Myawady. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
Similarly, a combined team under the management of the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized K18,636,000 worth of foodstuffs without official documents from a Mitsubishi Fuso car (estimated value of K30 million) near the 121/6 Milepost on Tachilek-Kengtung-Taunggyi-Meiktila highway. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 12 January, officials nabbed various bags, clothes and cosmetics worth K28,155,000 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Hino Profia FW1KXH car (approximately K50 million) at the 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
An unregistered Zongshen cyclone motorbike worth K400,000 was seized in YeU township and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law. A total of 2.5262 tonnes of illegal timber worth K540,264 was seized in Lewe township and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
A total of 41.4302 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K11,176,156 was captured in Bago, Toungoo, Nyaunglebin and Thayawady districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 17 arrests (approximately K297,394,020) were made on 11 and 12 January, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
