MoRAC installs bronze plaque at Taw Win Thante school building in Mandalay

Union Minister U Ko Ko and Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Maung Ko press the button to inaugurate the bronze plaque.

The ceremony of the bronze plaque installation on the historic Taw Win Thante school building in Aungmyaythazan Township of Aungmyaythazan District of Mandalay Region was held at BEHS 10 Taw Win Thante school compound yesterday.
First, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko said the school is now over 100 years and was donated by Dr Mark in 1869. King Mindon made Princes including Prince Thibaw learn Latin, English, Geography, Maths and History at the school. The ministry also makes efforts for inclusion on world heritage and world heritage record lists. Moreover, it conserves the ancient heritage of the country under the law and bylaws.
He also instructed personnel concerned to conserve the over 100-year-old school building in its original structure and artwork.
Then, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Maung Ko said the ministry designated 33 colonial-era buildings in Mandalay Region as ancient buildings under Section 34 (b) of the Preservation and Protection of Ancient Buildings Law on 8 April and the school is one of these buildings. He then urged the attendees to cooperate with the department concerned, regional government and organizations to ensure the structural stability of ancient heritage.
Afterwards, the Union minister and the chief minister pressed the electric button to unveil the bronze plaque and viewed round the displayed booths of the Yadanabon era and the Diocesan photo gallery at the school. — MNA/KTZH
