Scorching weather boosts rush mat sales

Rush mat manufacturers from TadaU Township, Mandalay Region, have reported a surge in sales turnover for mats, attributed to the increasingly hot weather.
“The prices are also rising due to the hot weather, and mats of various sizes are in high demand. The months of Tabaung and Tagoo are the best seasons to sell mats, with the highest sales turnover during this time. The current prices are K2,000 higher than usual, depending on the size of the mats. Since mat-making can be done at home as a small-scale business, almost all villagers engage in it as a traditional business,” a mat producer Ko Aung Aung from TadaU said.
Current mat wholesale prices are K45,000 for the family size, K35,000 for the king size, K30,000 for the queen size, K23,000 for the single size (big), K20,000 for the single size (small), and K17,000 for the smallest size.
Almost all villagers from Latsaungyu Village in TadaU Township, Mandalay Region, make rush mats as a traditional business, which can generate a lot of money for them, especially in the summer. Both retail and wholesale orders are available from Latsaungyu Village. — Maung Aye Chan/TMT
