112 baby sea turtles released in Hainggyikyun

The Thameehla Island Sea Turtle Conservation Camp of Hainggyikyun and relevant township-level departmental officials jointly organized an Olive Ridley hatchlings release event in Kyakan Village on 5 March.
First, the group comprising of departmental officials, staff, students and locals led by U Phone Maw, head of the Thameehla Island Sea Turtle Conservation Camp of the Fisheries Department, made way to the ocean for the sea turtle hatchlings systematically, and they released 112 sea turtle hatchlings.
The public awareness campaign regarding the nature of sea turtles, the importance of the natural environment and climate for the growth of sea turtles and freeing the sea turtles if they are caught in the nets.
U Phone Maw then presented awards to those informing officials about the holes where sea turtles lay eggs.
He also talked about sea turtle conservation activities and the establishment of an incubator at Kyakan Beach, the second release of Olive Ridley that was threatened with extinction. Currently, 112 sea turtles hatched from 117 eggs.
The female Olive Ridley lays 60 to 120 eggs, and 85 per cent of eggs hatch into baby turtles. The Fisheries Department also releases orders and notifications to prevent sea turtles from extinction. — Hlaing Myo Aung (Hainggyikyun/IPRD)/KTZH
