2023 Inter-State/Region Volleyball Tourney opens

The 2023 Inter-State and Region Volleyball Tournament was opened yesterday morning at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw, attended by State Administration Council members.
Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan first remarked that the purpose of this tournament is to bring out the new generation of athletes and to spread the sport of volleyball throughout the country.
As Myanmar has won gold medals for volleyball and has a long tradition of success, the Union minister urged the athletes to compete in the competition with full sportsmanship in the purest way and to strive to become great athletes that the State relies on.
The Union minister opened the tourney following the speech. Athletes then recited the sports oath, and SAC members and Union ministers greeted them cordially.
SAC members also watched the volleyball match played between the Ayeyawady Region Team and the Taninthayi Region Team. A total of 418 athletes from 15 men’s and 13 women’s teams are competing in the tourney, which will run up to 3 November. Sports enthusiasts are invited to watch the matches for free. — MNA/KZL
