276 markets permitted to reopen under Covid rules

A total of 276 markets in the Yangon region is permitted to reopen on 1 November with COVID-19 health regulations, it is learnt.
The markets in the Yangon region were temporarily closed due to the pandemic. And now, the Yangon region has brought the COVID-19 outbreak under control and the 184 Yangon City Development Committee-YCDC’s markets and 92 private’s markets from 33 townships of the Yangon region are granted to reopened, strictly adhering to COVID-19 health protocols.
“On 1 November, the authorities from the markets announced that their shops have already reopened. Earlier, all the markets in the Yangon region were ordered to shut down except the shops which sell essential food items and pharmacies. Now, all the shops from the markets are allowed to reopen starting from 1 November without any restrictions. Currently, the shops are reopening as per Version 3.1 of the Ministry of Health,” said an official from the market committee.
The version 3.1 guidelines include placing a handwashing sink and sanitizers at the entrance and keeping a distance of at least six feet away from each other.
The markets have been closed for so long, causing hardships for shopkeepers and workers.
We are very glad that the shops and the markets can resume their operation. But the shopkeepers need to follow the guidelines of the market committee and the government,” said a resident. — Pwint Thitsar/GNLM
