3 dead, 14 injured in bus accident on Yangon-Mandalay expressway

An express bus named Manshwepyi which departed from Lashio to Yangon overturned on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway in Tatkon Township, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, at around 7 am on 25 October.
Fire brigade members of the Palwe highway fire service station, Pantin highway fire service station, Phayar Taung Region fire service station and members of respective highway police stations and social organizations rushed to the scene and carried out rescue work.
A member of the highway police station said that the express bus could not control its speed and overturned between Mile Posts (228/2) and (228/3) of the Yangon-Mandalay expressway in Tatkon Township, leaving three dead and 14 wounded out of the 17 passengers.
The dead and injured were sent to Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1000-bed) by vehicles of Thukhadana and Myittayaysin Taungnyo social organizations and highway ambulances.
Also in September, two passenger buses collided head-on on the Meiktila-Kyaukpadaung Road near Zeephyugon village in Kyaukpadaung Township, Mandalay Region. Thirteen passengers were killed and 14 passengers injured in the accident.
It is reported that 4,282 car accidents occurred in regions, states and on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway during the nine months of 2022 with 2,102 casualties and 5,911 injuries. — TWA/GNLM
