455 inmates from Mandalay Central Prison freed from sentences

A total of 5,774 prisoners from prisons across the country were given an amnesty from their sentences in honour of the National Victory Day and on humanitarian grounds. Four hundred and fifty-five inmates from the Mandalay Central Prison were given an exemption from their punishment yesterday, it is learnt.
Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Min of Mandalay Region Government, in his speech on the occasion, urged the inmates to help develop the country, improve the peace and harmony of family life and not commit crimes again in the future.
Then, prison officials conducted COVID-19 inspections for exempted inmates and released them from prison after giving them travel expenses.
There are five prisons in Mandalay Region and Nay Pyi Taw and a total of 988 prisoners from those prisons were released under the amnesty order. – Maung Aye Chan/GNLM
