Sagaing Govt releases 200,000 fingerlings into Ayeyawady River

According to the regional department, the Department of Fisheries released 200,000 fingerlings into the Ayeyawady River of the Sagaing Region yesterday.
Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi, Director-General, Deputy Director-General and other officials of the department concerned joined that fish planting ceremony, said U AL Tuu Rein, deputy director of district Fisheries Department.
“The fish population declines in the rivers and creeks for many reasons. The Fisheries Department adds fingerlings in Ayeyawady River to conserve the fish resources and meet the local demand yearly,” he added.
The officials released 200,000 fingerlings—100,000 Labeo rohita, 50,000 Common carp and 50,000 Barbus fish into the Ayeyawady River.
The fish are annually added to the rivers and dams to support the sustainable development of fisheries, poverty alleviation, development of fishery products, proper income of marine workers and the local populace.—Khine Zaya/GNLM
