World standards day 2021 celebrated through videoconferencing

The Department of Research and Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology held a ceremony to celebrate the 9th World Standards Day 2021 yesterday morning through videoconferencing.
At the ceremony, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw clarified the formation of the World Standard Day. The World Standard Day was firstly held on 14 October in 1970 to highlight the importance of the international standards published by the organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization-ISO, the International Electro Technical Commission-IEC, and the International Telecommunication Union-ITU; to recognize the key role of the international standards in promoting trade, health, agriculture, science and technology exchange, and innovation; to recognize the efforts of professionals and experts in the field of global and international standardization; to commend the efforts of the scholars in facilitating trades and producing goods and services as per the standards.
The theme chosen for this year’s World Standards Day is “Shared Vision for a Better World”, aiming to build a better, just, and sustainable and prosperous world that protects future generations.
At the ceremony, Representatives of the Research and Innovation Department, the National Standards and Quality Department and the Technology Sub-Committee discussed the national quality infrastructure, domestic and foreign cooperation on standard development and the subcommittees activities on standard development.
The ceremony was also attended by members of the National Standards Council, the Chairman and members of the Technical Subcommittee for Drafting Standards, representatives from the Myanmar Engineer Council, the UMFCCI, Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Engineer Federation, and experts from relevant organizations. — MNA
