1,316 detainees, 4,320 defendants pardoned on Thadingyut occasion

The Chairman of the State Administration Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar granted pardon to a total of 1,316 detained in respective jails, prisons and camps, and a total of 4,320 defendants in respective courts yesterday. The prisoners and defendants were pardoned in commemoration of the Thadingyut occasion, with an emphasis on peace of mind and humanitarian assistance to the people, and with a chance for them to transform into helpful citizens while building a new, peaceful, modern, and disciplined democratic nation.
The prisoners and detainees were released under the condition: “If I commit another crime, I will continue to serve the remaining penalties in addition to the new sentence,” according to sub-section (1) of Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. — MNA
