Illegal timber, foods, consumer goods, vehicles confiscated

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, action is being taken effectively under the law.
On 15 and 16 January, a combined task force under the management of the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Force in Rakhine State conducted field inspections and seized 41.9056 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K634,798) in Thandwe and Taungup townships in Rakhine State as per the rules and regulations of the Department of Forest.
According to a report on 19 January, a Customs inspection team in charge of the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint inspected the vehicles coming from the detour near Moppalin village in Kyaikto Township and confiscated undocumented foods, medicines, consumer goods with two motorcycles and four minibuses (estimated value of K50,345,800) accordingly to the Department of Customs.
The Department of Forest also seized three illegal boats made by gum-kino wood (estimated value of K15,000,000) in the Thanlwin River and action is being taken in line with the procedures of the Department.
In addition, 5.7016 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated value of K1,710,480) and 3.1985 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K223,706) were seized in the forest reserves in Bago District and Toungoo District. In Homalin Township in Sagaing Region, two China-made engines and accessories used for gold mining (estimated value of K300,000) were seized and action is being taken under the Myanmar Mining Law.
On 15, 16, 19 and 20 January, there was a total of 14 cases (estimated value of K68,214,784), the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee stated. — MNA
