Kyaikmaraw durian, pomelo fetch high prices during harvest time

The prices of durian and pomelo from Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, are escalating in the early time of harvest season, allowing the farm owners to earn handsome profits.
The durian and pomelo are abundantly harvested in April. There are two types of durians in the market: Thai durian and native durian varieties. Consumers mostly prefer Thai durian varieties due to their thick skin and richer taste. The prices of Thai varieties touched a high of K10,000-K30,000, while the prices of native durian varieties are pretty low due to little flesh. Next, farm owners sell the pomelo at K3,000-4,000. Those farm owners who can harvest the fruits at present are doing well financially. I can pluck 200 pomelos and 100 durians at once, said U Kyaw Kyaw, a farm owner.
The growers lack foreign demand amid the pandemic. There are approximately 15,000 acres of pomelo acreage across the states and regions. However, pomelo can solely rely on the domestic market for now. — Cho Myat Myat Htwe (Kyaikmaraw)/GNLM
