Tatmadaw launches its very first liver transplant marking Diamond Jubilee Medical Corps Day

Tatmadaw performed its very first liver transplant at the special treatment centre of Ddfence Services General Hospital (1000-bedd) in Defence Services General Township of Yangon Region yesterday marking the Diamond Jubilee Medical Corps Day which will fall on 1 October.
The liver transplant operation was conducted by a surgical team led by Brig-Gen Khin Aung Tun, Rector of Defence Services Medical Academy and Lt-Col Thurein Kyaw Myint, the anaesthesia and intensive care unit led by Prof Col Daw Yu Aye Latt and the liver transplant surgical team led by liver transplant surgeon Dr Neerav Goyal of Apollo Hospital in New Delhi of India.
The Indian liver transplant surgical team included Dr Neerav Goyal and Dr Arun Kumar as surgeons, Dr Sanjeev Aneja and Dr Anupam Raj as anesthesiologists, Dr Arvind Jerome Bose as intensive care medic, Mr Krishna Pathivada and Ms Priya Shanthi Lewis as OR nurses and Mr Priyank Uphdayay as special surgical/anaesthesia assistant.
The liver transplant was conducted on Quartermaster Sergeant Aung Chit Win, and liver donor Daw Myo Thuzar, his wife.
The surgeons took out the liver from the donor yesterday morning and transplanted it into the patient at noon. It took about 11 hours.
The liver donor and the patient are in good condition and under the medical treatment of specialists.
Yangon Commander Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe, Maj-Gen Ko Ko Lwin, Director of Directorate of Medical Services office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and officials of GI and Liver Foundation (Myanmar) watched the liver transplant operation. — MNA
