MYANMAR Rice Federation (MRF) will sell the rice at a fairer price for factory workers and families of blue-collar workers in Yangon Region, according to its notification dated 22 February.
To reduce the food cost of the workers, the federation will sell 10-per-cent broken Aemahta rice per 10-kilogramme bag (five pyi) at K10,000.
The MRF has been implementing this scheme for factory workers and low-income people. About 216,600 10-kg bags of rice were sold at a fairer rate for the blue-collar workers engaged in factories, workshops and private institutions.
Those who want to buy the rice at a much fairer rate can dial the contact number of the MRF (09 400067270) and Viber No (09 400067260) to make further enquiries, make payment and proceed with delivery or withdrawal method at the designated place.
Other rice varieties can be purchased at reasonable prices at Wahdan and Bayint Naung Wholesale Centres.
The prices of various rice varieties moved up in the domestic markets. The prices of new high-grade Pawsan rice were around K73,000-87,000 per bag depending on the producing areas (Shwebo, Myaungmya, Deday and Pyapon), while old 90-day short matured rice fetched K61,000. New Khuni rice was worth K64,000 per bag. Pawkywe rice was priced at K61,000 per bag and rice that is grown under the intercropping system fetched K55,000 per bag.
Myanmar Rice Federation, Myanmar Rice and Paddy Traders Association, Myanmar Rice Millers Association, and traders involved in rice wholesale centres (Wahdan and Bayintnaung) have offered rice at a cheaper rate from 3 August 2022 every day between 9 am and 3 pm except for government office holidays.
Ayeyawady Pawsan, Shwebo Pawsan, Pawkywe and short-mature rice varieties (90 days) will be sold at a cheaper price between K35,000 and K77,000 per bag.
Each household is entitled to buy one rice bag only and those resellers, traders and retailers are excluded from this scheme. — NN/EM
