Aquatic product exports surge past US$214 mln in just five months

According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Commerce, the export of aquatic products to foreign countries generated US$214.42 million between April and August this financial year.
During this period, approximately 70 per cent of foreign trade was conducted through sea exports. Simultaneously, it has been reported that exports to China, Thailand, Bangladesh and India occurred via border trade.
In the same period of the previous financial year (2022-2023), the export of aquatic products earned US$239.21 million.
Myanmar’s aquatic products are exported to foreign countries through both normal trade and border trade channels. These exports adhere to the rules established by the respective countries, and the production and export processes for aquatic products are systematically planned and executed to ensure they are free from pathogens.
Myanmar’s aquatic products are exported to various foreign countries, including Japan and European nations, through regular trade channels. Aquatic products such as shrimp and fish are regularly exported through the Muse, Myawady, Kawthoung, Sittway, Myeik, and Maungtaw land borders to China, Thailand and neighbouring countries. — TWA/KZW
