64 drug addicts receive comprehensive psychological, physical care over 10 months

According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement, 64 individuals who have overcome drug addiction are currently receiving mental and physical follow-up care within the first 10 months of this year.
From 1 January 2023, up to the present, 64 recovering drug addicts have been provided with psychological and physical follow-up care in various rehabilitation centres under the MoSWRR. A ceremony to hand them over to their parents took place on 31 October.
The rehabilitation of drug addicts has been ongoing since 1980, utilizing three strategies: camp-based rehabilitation, camp and community-based rehabilitation, and community-based rehabilitation.
A total of 14 rehabilitation centres have been established in locations such as Yangon, Mandalay, Myitkyina, Lashio, Kengtung, Tachilek, Nantlatt (Taunggyi), Myawady, Kawthoung, Wethteekan (Pyay), Pekhon, Hpa-an, Dawei, and Myeik.
In these drug rehabilitation camps operated by the Department of Rehabilitation, camp-based rehabilitation programs are conducted over 90 days. These programmes include courses in hairdressing, welding, printing, soap production, basic motorcycle and computer repair, basket weaving, basic home electrical repair, basic skin care production, motorcycle wiring and repair, and so on. — TWA/CT
