Myanmar shipped fisheries worth US$564.681 million to foreign trade partners in the past ten months of the current financial year 2023-2024, beginning 1 April, the statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce indicated.
The figures during the April-January period reflected a decrease of $46 million compared to that of the corresponding period last FY.
Through maritime and border trade channels, Myanmar delivers fishery products to 45 countries, including Japan, European countries, China and Thailand. The fishery export has yet to return to normality, although the export is steadily going.
Myanmar exported over 2,380 tonnes of ten fish species worth US$2.211 million to neighbouring Thailand through the Kawthoung border between 30 January and 3 February 2024, as per the Ministry of Commerce.
For the livestock sector, live animals are mainly sent to the neighbouring countries at the border. The fisheries are exported to China, Bangladesh and Thailand via the Muse, Myawady, Kawthoung, Sittway, Myeik and Maungtaw borders. — TWA/KK
