U Soe Win, secretary of the U Bein Bridge Maintenance Committee, mentioned that nearly 600 local and foreign travellers frequent Taungthaman Lake and U Bein Bridge daily, with approximately 50 boats operating for passengers.
Taungthaman Lake and U Bein Bridge stand as the most sought-after spots in Mandalay Region for both local and foreign tourists, with visitor numbers surging since 1 May.
“With the sweltering weather, an increasing number of travellers seek refuge here to beat the heat and unwind. During last April’s Thingyan festival, there were just over 300 daily visitor arrivals. Nowadays, we see almost 600 visitors coming to relax each day. As boat ridership on the lake grows, around 50 boats are now in operation daily. The lake’s water level is currently low,” stated U Soe Win.
Most domestic visitors to Taungthaman Lake and U Bein Bridge hail from Mandalay, PyinOoLwin, Taunggyi, and Yangon, while tourists from Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea top the list of foreign visitors. — ASH/MKKS
