18 accidents on Yangon-Mandalay Expressway in January

According to the office of the expressway police commander, a total of 18 traffic accidents occurred on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway in January, resulting in 15 fatalities and 37 injuries.
These accidents were attributed to various causes, including speeding, reckless driving, driver fatigue, negligence of pedestrians, negligence of motorcycle riders, and tyre punctures. The total loss amounted to K50 million. Measures are implemented to penalize vehicles exceeding the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway’s speed limit.
From January to December 2023, there were a total of 163 crashes, resulting in 326 injuries and 86 fatalities. Additionally, action was taken against over 13,000 vehicles for speeding during this period. — TWA /MKKS
