The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture announced that the National Universities of Arts and Culture (NUAC) in Yangon and Mandalay will introduce courses in folk music and dance representing various Myanmar nationalities – Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan – commencing from this financial year.
Courses in folk music and dance specific to Kayin, Mon, and Rakhine cultures will be offered at NUAC in Yangon, while those representing Shan, Kachin, Chin, and Kayah cultures will be available at NUAC in Mandalay.
An official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture revealed that the universities are collaborating with professional dance and music experts, as well as ethnic literature and culture groups, to develop the curriculum and guidelines for these courses. Additionally, permissions have been granted to hire tutors for these new subjects.
Currently, representatives from NUAC in Yangon and Mandalay are engaged in discussions with ethnic literature and culture groups from various states to seek advice and define the curriculum for the folk music and dance courses. — ASH/ TRKM
