According to the MRF’s notification, the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) has been planning to add more places in other regions and states beyond Yangon Region to offer rice at fairer prices.
Under the leadership of the MRF, Myanmar Rice and Paddy Traders Association, export companies and depots are working together to stabilize the price and initiated the rice subsidy scheme starting from 16 February for the low-income people and civil servants to buy the rice at fairer prices at 58 retail shops in 18 townships, Yangon Region.  The consumers can purchase reasonably well-milled (15 per cent broken) white rice at K3,300 per pyi (2.13 kg or 4.69 lb). An individual is entitled to buy two pyi at a time.
This scheme can cover 18 townships: Hlinethaya, Shwepyitha, South Dagon, North Okkalapa, North Dagon, Dagon Seikkan, East Dagon, Hmawby, Thingangyun, Thakayta, Pazundaung, Dawbon, Dala, Kyimyindine, Ahlon, Seikkyi Khanaungto, Mingaladon and Insein.
Discussions are underway to expand the scheme to other regions and states, as per the MRF.
Additionally, civil service personnel, factory and company staff can buy them by contacting the MRF via email at [email protected] and presenting an official letter. For further detail, they can contact the MRF phone 09 40067260, 09 400067270, Wahdan rice depot at 01 8221448, 01 8220131, 01 8210287 and Bayintnaung rice depot phone at 09 769029428.
