Uncertainty looms for Myanmar workers in Malaysia without calling visas by month’s end

Unless calling visas are received by the end of this month, the prospects of Myanmar nationals wishing to work in Malaysia will be uncertain, according to the announcement by Safe Migration.
Malaysian employers have been informed that they would have to bring in all foreign workers, including Myanmar, who have been granted calling visas by the Immigration Department by 31 May, it stated.
The government of Malaysia has suspended the approvals of the Human Resources Ministry (KSM Approvals) for factories and enterprises to recruit foreign workers since March 2023, and during the 18 months of the term of already-permitted KSM Approvals, Malaysian factories and enterprises wishing to recruit foreign workers have been bringing them into the country after applying for calling visas from the Immigration Department.
According to the resolution of a joint meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Human Resources Ministry of Malaysia, the deadline for the application of calling visas has been set as on or before 31 May.
If there are no applications for calling visas for still valid KSM approvals, these approvals will be cancelled from 1 April, and Malaysian employees who have paid levies to the government will be refunded according to the specifications. — MT/ZN/ED
