Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, along with representatives from relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations, convened at the Ministry of Health office yesterday to mark World Health Day (WHD) 2024.
The Union minister highlighted that since the founding year of the World Health Organization in 1950, WHD has been commemorated annually. Member countries gather to discuss global health challenges and strategies for collective action.
This year’s WHD theme, “My Health, My Right”, emphasizes health as a fundamental human right. The Union minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare in line with the State Administration Council’s nine objectives.
Following this, attendees watched the WHD 2024 commemoration video. Subsequently, the Union minister and the Deputy Minister presented awards to outstanding state and regional public health workers.
In the afternoon, an introductory ceremony was held for the National Strategy for Preventing and Controlling Non-communicable Diseases (2023-27). After the Union minister’s opening remarks, Deputy Director-General Dr Kyaw Kan Kaung of the Public Health Department presented the strategy’s objectives and programmes. A brief explanation of the strategy by Director Dr Thida Win of the Non-communicable Diseases Unit followed this. — MNA/NT
