Weekly market update of dry groceries at Bayintnaung Wholesale Centre

For a week from 3 to 9 April 2024, the prices of black grams and pigeon peas rebounded. The prices of most commodities were relatively stable in the pre-Thingyan period. The palm oil reference price remained unchanged this week.

Onion
The Bayintnaung Wholesale market saw a supply of 360,000 visses of onions on 8 April and 240,000 visses on 9 April. The wholesale prices stood at K1,600-K3,000 per viss on 9 April 2024, depending on the quality, size and producing areas (Seikphyu and Monywa) that day.

Garlic
The prices of Kyukok garlic hit K11,000 per viss on 9 April while the garlic from Aungban, Shan State, fetched K6,000-K6,500 per viss depending on varieties and qualities.

Potato
Shan potatoes were priced at K1,600-K2,100 per viss on 9 April.

Chilli pepper
The wholesale prices of chilli peppers were registered at K4,000-K8,000 per viss for long chilli pepper and Moehtaung variety on 9 April. The price of bell peppers from the Sinphyukyun area were K9,000 per viss that day.

Palm oil
The wholesale reference price of Yangon Region was flat at K5,250 per viss for four consecutive weeks.

Rice
The prices hit K76,000-K110,000 per sack of non-premium new monsoon rice and K100,000 per sack of Pawkywe variety on 9 April. Meanwhile, the new premium quality Pawsan rice was worth K125,000-K160,000 per sack depending on the producing areas (Ayeyawady, Pyapon, Myaungmya, Shwebo). The stick rice prices hit K85,000-95,000 per viss.

Pulses
The prices of various pulses stood at K3,141,000 per tonne of black grams (Fair Average Quality/RC), K3,411,000 per tonne of black grams (Special Quality/RC), K3,976,000 per tonne of pigeon peas (red gram) RC, K3,830 per viss of green grams (Shwewah) and K5,650-K6,000 per viss of chickpeas in Yangon’s wholesale markets on 9 April 2024. — TWA/KK
